How it all began
I went to see a documentary called "In Plain Sight". It is about human trafficking in America. I wanted instantly to help but wasn't sure how. As the film progressed, there was a woman being interviewed in a barn. With horses. It instantly clicked as to what I was supposed to do! I was going to use equine therapy to help these women. That was in November, 2015.
I spent a lot of time speaking my dream out loud. I didn't realize that things would progress so quickly. I thought people would think I was crazy. Or put barriers in my way.
My first desire was to have horses on my property and to bring people here. I don't have the best laid out 5 acres. Too much hill. All chopped up. No fencing. You get the idea.
I was told that a friend of mine knew someone who was already doing this and that I needed to get in touch with her. After about a month of more of missing her at church, I finally ran into her. She told me she would get in touch with Shannon and we would get together.
When we finally did get together it was amazing! Shannon and I share the same thoughts on safety and even on treatment of horses. She already has a 501(c)3 in place, the facility, a therapist, and 20 horses! Wow! I feel like this was orchestrated from above! There is a lot to do to get up and running but we can get volunteers going as soon as possible. Then we can start fundraising and working with clients. Can't wait to get going!
